Originally the people lived in the lower valley but in 1800 they were forced to move to higher grounds because of the violence of the Ottoman rulers.

The city of Rethymno, about 12 km from the property, is the third largest city in Crete. A charming city with a winning combination of Venetian and Turkish influences. The narrow alleys create an almost mystical, and romantic atmosphere.
